Problems with the SAQ questionnaire

Updated over a month ago

What is SAQ?

SAQ stands for Suitability and Appropriateness Questionnaire. It is a mandatory investor assessment required under MiFID II regulation.

The SAQ evaluates:

  • Your investment knowledge and experience

  • Your financial situation

  • Your risk tolerance and investment objectives

Based on your answers, the system determines whether investments offered on the platform are appropriate for you and whether any restrictions must apply.

Why is SAQ mandatory?

As a regulated investment brokerage supervised by the Bank of Latvia, Debitum is legally required to assess whether financial instruments are suitable and appropriate for each investor.

The SAQ helps to:

  • Protect investors from taking risks they may not fully understand

  • Ensure compliance with EU regulatory requirements

  • Determine investment limits and feature access (e.g., Auto Invest)

Without a valid SAQ, investing is not permitted.

Why do I have investment limitations?

If your SAQ answers indicate:

  • Limited investment experience

  • Low risk tolerance

  • Limited financial capacity

The system may apply restrictions automatically. These can include:

  • Lower maximum investment per asset

  • Restrictions on certain financial instrument types (ABS or Notes)

  • Auto Invest is being disabled

These restrictions are regulatory safeguards and cannot be manually overridden by support.

Why is Auto Invest blocked?

Auto Invest may be blocked if:

  • Your SAQ needs to be retaken

  • Your updated SAQ answers triggered suitability limitations

  • Your risk profile does not match the parameters required for automated investing

Even if the SAQ shows as completed, certain answers may automatically restrict Auto Invest access.

What should I do?

  1. Check your SAQ status
Go to your Profile → Verifications section and confirm whether a retake is required.

  2. Retake the SAQ if available
If the "Retake" button is visible, complete the questionnaire again carefully and accurately.

  3. Review your answers
Ensure your responses correctly reflect your actual investment knowledge and experience.

  4. Check your strategy settings
If Auto Invest remains unavailable, verify whether your strategy parameters exceed your allowed risk level.

If restrictions remain after completing the SAQ correctly, please contact support so your case can be reviewed individually.

Important: The SAQ is not a formality. It is a regulatory requirement and directly determines your permitted investment scope on the platform.
